How to study ...
Learners can prepare for the MB-910 Dynamics 365 Fundamentals (CRM) exam in a number of ways. These could include formal training, provided by Microsoft Learning Partners, self learning and group study. There is no right or wrong way to prepare. The approach each of us takes will depend on our own personal situation.
I’m a big fan of self-learning as I can fit it around my work and home commitments. I also find study groups really useful, and always look out for them. Unfortunately there were no groups running while I prepared for this exam. Luckily I am quite disciplined so was able to study on my own. But this is not easy if you are new to learning, so I might start a group to help others. Watch this space!
What to study ...
MB-910 Dynamics 365 Fundamentals (CRM) is the ‘entry level’ exam for Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement applications. It is intended to test a basic level of knowledge. For this exam, you will need to describe each of the following D365 Customer Engagement features.
- Marketing (10-15%)
- Sales (15-20%)
- Customer Service (15-20%)
- Field Service (15-20%)
- Project Operations (15-20%)
- Shared Features (15-20%)
My first step when studying for a Microsoft exam is to check the Microsoft Learn website. Here you can browse for either the certification or exam to find resources. The ‘exam skills outline’ gives further detail on the elements tested in the exam, and can be downloaded.
Using Microsoft Learn ...
If you are studying for a Microsoft certification, Microsoft Learn is your key resource for learning material. Before using Microsoft Learn, I would recommend that you set up a ‘Learning Profile’. You will need the Microsoft Certification ID associated with your profile when you schedule an exam. Additionally, your learning profile will help you keep track of what you have studied and what is left to cover.
Once you’ve set up a learning profile, you can browse certifications to find information relating to MB-910. Key resources include the Skills Outline and the Learning Paths. Learning Paths are made up of Modules that cover the exam content. The 5 Learning Paths for MB-910 are listed below.
- 1 – Learn the Fundamentals of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Marketing
- 2 – Learn the Fundamentals of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales
- 3 – Learn the Fundamentals of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Service
- 4 – Learn the Fundamentals of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Field Service
- 5 – Learn the Fundamentals of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Project Operations (CRM)
The Learning Paths for MB-910, contain some new features in the shape of ‘guided learning’ videos. These are great for learners who do not have a trial environment to practice on. With guided learning, learners can see how things appear in the product.
Other learning material ...
As the MB-910 is a relatively new certification there is not a lot of online content that is specific to this exam. However there is a lot of information relating to D365 and a quick Google search will return many results. Because of the high quality of the Microsoft Learn materials for MB-910, I don’t believe other resources are necessary to pass the exam. However it is always worth getting a trial environment, and some hands on practice.
You can find information on how to take out a D365 Trial at the Microsoft Dynamics 365 site.
Taking the exam ...
Information on the exam itself is available on the MB-910 certification page on Microsoft Learn. You can also book the exam from there. I would advise anyone new to Microsoft certification to check through the Exam Resources section. It is also a good idea to check the information relating to exams and question types included on Microsoft Docs.
Exams can be taken remotely or in person at a test centre. More recently I have taken quite a few exams at home. I have not experienced many issues preparing for this. I normally cover my bookcase with a blanket, clear my desk, and unplug my second monitor. Apart from that, it’s typically quite straightforward preparing for the security check.
A security check will need to be carried out before taking an exam at home. Aside from the preparations I have mentioned above, I normally leave around 15 minutes for this. This is usually enough time to upload photos of my workspace and ID and to get these verified. However on this occasion, the verification stage took over 40 minutes. It was 30 minutes before anyone even spoke to me, which was a little disconcerting. So if you do happen to find yourself in this situation don’t worry. Just wait patiently and try not to become anxious, and hopefully it will all turn out well in the end!
