First things first ...
The first stop for anyone considering becoming a Microsoft Certified Trainer should be the Microsoft Learn website. Microsoft provide all the information required for applicants on their MCT page.
Having been responsible for training clients during a number of roles, this was something that immediately interested me. I figured it would also be useful with regard to my activities in the Power Platform community!
The application process ...
The application process was very straightforward for me. Because I had been training people in Power Platform, I could get a recommendation from my employer. If you want to take this route, you need to have been training for at least a year.
Alternatively, you can pursue an instructional skills program. This is really helpful for people who are just breaking into training. One of those is the Comptia CTT+ certification program.
Program fees ...
Something that might put prospective MCTs off, is the annual fee for the program. At around £700 per annum, this is a considerable investment, particularly if your company are not helping you with the fee. Luckily at that time I was applying, the fee had been waived due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This had obviously encouraged quite a few other people to pursue the MCT. It will be interesting to see how the landscape changes once the fee is reintroduced!
Support ...
Once you are registered as an MCT, you can access MCT support online. I particularly like the MCT Central website, as it is filled with useful information and signposting to helpful websites. There is also a very active MCT network, and lots of events throughout the year.
